The Council of Europe with the support of the EU implements programs for nine million euros
Baku / 30.05.19 / Turan: Official presentation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Azerbaijan for 2018-2021 was held on Thursday in the conference hall of the "Holiday İnn"hotel in Baku.
According to the head of the Azerbaijan Office of the Council of Europe, Zoltan Hearnies, the goal of the plan adopted last fall is to assist Azerbaijan in implementing laws and practices in the field of human rights, the rule of law and democracy in line with Council of Europe standards.
This is the second such plan - the first covered 2014-2017.
Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev said that the new plan is designed for 4 years, along with traditional directions, it will also cover: gender equality, children's rights, ensuring social rights, youth programs.
The CE Program Director, Verena Taylor, noted that the new plan envisages: the implementation of measures to increase the efficiency of court and prosecutor's office bodies, increase accountability and transparency, expand the application of CE standards in the field of human rights, deepen the reforms of the penitentiary system, counteract corruption and money laundering, promote children's rights , the protection of personal data, the implementation of reforms to ensure the independence of the media.
Development of education of youth in the field of human rights, development in schools of democratic and inclusive environment is also supposed. In total, it is planned to spend about 9 million euros for the implementation of the plan, and the European Union will finance most of this amount.
The event was attended by representatives of various government agencies of Azerbaijan and international partner organizations, as well as civil society and media institutions. -06D--
