The Court of Appeal remanded Gubad Ibadoglu in custody
Baku/07.09.23/Turan: Today, the Baku Court of Appeal rejected the complaint of the arrested oppositionist Gubad Ibadoglu, who appealed against the refusal to release him under house arrest.
Earlier the defense filed a petition to the Narimanov court to transfer Ibadoglu under house arrest due to deteriorating health, his lawyer Zibeya Sadigova told reporters.Despite the aggravation of diseases, Ibadoglu cannot get treatment and no medical supervision is provided for him.
"They don't even give him the results of examinations. Therefore, we asked that he be transferred to house arrest so that he could be treated at his own expense. On September 2, the Narimanov court rejected the petition. We filed a complaint against this decision, but the Court of Appeal today refused to transfer Ibadoglu to house arrest, leaving the decision of the Narimanov district Court in force," the lawyer said.
*On July 24, the Narimanov District Court of Baku arrested Gubad Ibadoglu for 3 months and 26 days on charges of making counterfeit money. The Azerbaijani Interior Ministry said that Ibadoglu is associated with supporters of Fethullah Gulen, accused of an attempted coup in 2016 in Turkey. On August 25, he was charged with another charge of "manufacturing, storing or distributing religious extremist materials."
Gubad Ibadoglu denies the accusations, considering them absurd. Many international organizations and officials have called on official Baku to immediately release the politician. ---16B---
