The defense petitions for the transfer of Zamin Salaev under house arrest
Baku/29.03.23/Turan: An activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Zamin Salayev has been on a hunger strike for 51 days in the Baku pre-trial detention center demanding his release.
This was reported to Turan by his son Ogtay Salaev.
“Father called today (March 29). He's getting worse and worse. He can no longer walk on his own. My father's headaches and dizziness increased. He periodically faints. Nevertheless, the father intends to continue the hunger strike,” O. Salaev said.
On March 29, Z. Salayev's lawyer, Nemat Karimli, re-submitted a petition to the Garadagh District Court to transfer the oppositionist to house arrest. He personally submitted the application to the court.
According to him, the previous petition, sent by mail on March 13, did not reach the addressee.
In turn, the head of the press service of the ombudsman's office, Emil Shahzade, responding to a request from Turan in connection with the state of Z. Salaev, said that during March, representatives of the department met with him several times in the isolation ward.
In this regard, relevant appeals were sent to state bodies.
The state of health and conditions of detention of Z. Salaev are in the focus of attention of the Ombudsman.
Information about his condition is regularly requested and studied. And today, the Ombudsman's office contacted the Baku detention center and received information that Salayev would undergo a medical examination again, Shahzade stressed.
It was not possible to get comments in the public relations department of the penitentiary service.—06B-
