The European Court satisfied the complaints of three activists from Azerbaijan
Baku/29.06.17/Turan: The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) announced decisions on complaints of youth activists: Agil Veliyev, Ramin Hajili and the late Nargiz Yagublu. According to the ECHR website, these activists were detained during the protests in Baku in January-March 2013 and fined from 450 to 600 manats.
The applicants considered that the ban on participation in peaceful protest actions and administrative punishment for this violated their rights under articles: 5 (right to liberty and security of the person), 6 (right to fair trial) and 11 (right to freedom of assembly) of the European Convention on Human Rights.
The ECtHR considered all three complaints together and found violations of rights under articles 6 and 11.
The ECHR obliged the Azerbaijani government to pay each applicant for moral damages of 6.000 euros. For material damage compensation amounted to 473 euros - the late Yagublu, Hajili - 400 euros, and Aliyev - 588 euros. The three lawyers and human rights activist Intigam Aliyev represented all three in the ECHR. Decisions will come into force after 3 months. -16D-
