The President of Georgia does not honor the memory of the victims of Khojaly
Baku / 26.02.18 / Turan: As part of the campaign "From independence to freedom" - 100 years of the republic, the Georgian president met today with the population of Marneuli, where the Azerbaijani population lives compactly. He called on ethnic minorities of the country to actively celebrate the Independence Day of Georgia.
The President noted that Georgia could and was freed from the Russian Empire, but Russia did not leave the whole of Georgia alone and occupied the country's territory, Novosti-Georgia reports.
The participants of the meeting suggested that Margvelashvili honor the memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy, but the Georgian president did not do so, noting only that he follows the situation around the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, and Georgia supports a peaceful settlement of the problem.
He also gave a negative answer to the question of whether Azerbaijanis are assimilated in Georgia.
"Ethnic Azerbaijanis living in Georgia are not assimilated, the state allocates funds for the study of the Georgian language by national minorities. Each year in Marneuli, the Novruz holiday is widely celebrated. Georgia respects the national traditions and customs of Azerbaijan, and there are no restrictions in this area," he said. -02D-
