The Sarsang reservoir has become very shallow
Baku/05.05.23/Turan: The water level in the Sarsang reservoir, in the former Mardakert district of Karabakh, has dropped significantly. This happened as a result of a massive discharge of water in order to generate electricity at a local hydroelectric power station.
The leadership of the Karabakh separatists explains the discharge of water by the need to generate electricity, which is not enough due to the shortage of electricity and gas.
It should be recalled that the reservoir was built in 1976 by the Azerbaijani authorities in order to collect water and irrigate crops in the summer in low-lying Karabakh.
After the occupation of these territories by Armenians in the late 80s, the separatists stopped draining water in the summer. ---02B---
