The Situation for the Azerbaijanis in Moscow Remains Tense

The tense situation in Moscow after the murder of a young man in Biryulyovo, remains tense. Yesterday's arrest of the suspect in the killing, an Azerbaijani citizen Orkhan Zeynalov, strengthened the negative attitude of the local population towards Caucasians and Azerbaijanis in particular.

One of the residents in the south of Moscow, an Azerbaijani businessmen told the news agency Turan that he has not come to work for 4 days. This person is involved in the supply of vegetables and fruits, and suffers huge losses due to the fact that trucks with goods (up to tens of tons) have got stuck on the road, or there is no one to unload them.
According to him, Moscow police have even recommended the Azerbaijanis - employees of markets to keep steel fittings and other means to fend off rioters.
This morning, the police again warned the workers of markets and distribution centers not to come to work.
The natives of Azerbaijan are concerned about the prevailing situation and the inability of the authorities to restore order. They are also unhappy with the failure of the authorities of Azerbaijan to take any steps necessary to protect their fellow citizens.
Observers do not rule out that the pressure on migrants in Moscow will be strengthened and the Russian authorities aim to squeeze this category of persons from the capital. An indirect confirmation of these plans are the words of Putin said at a recent meeting with Russian government officials about the need for removal of the trading system under the control of migrants. -03B-
