The Supreme Court of Belarus upheld the extradition to Azerbaijan Lapshin
On Tuesday the Supreme Court of Belarus upheld the extradition of the blogger Lapshin to Azerbaijan, BELTA reported. The trial was held in a closed court session. The Supreme Court of Belarus verified the legality and validity of the decision of the Minsk City Court. Alexander Lapshin was not present in the courtroom. Earlier, President Lukashenko said that Minsk has no reason not to transfer Lapshin to Azerbaijan. Today’s decision of the Belarus Supreme Court is final, not subject to appeal, the judge said.
Alexander Lapshin was detained in Minsk in December 2016 at the request of Azerbaijan. In January, the General Prosecutor's Office of Belarus decided to extradite Alexander Lapshin in Azerbaijan. The blogger appealed to the Minsk City Court, which on January 26 upheld the decision of the Deputy Prosecutor General of Belarus to grant Alexander Lapshin.
Lapshin is accused of supporting the Armenian separatists and appeals directed against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. He also drove in Azerbaijan on forged documents.
Israel and Russia, the citizen of which is Lapshin tried to prevent extradition, but Minsk rejected their pressure. -02D-
