The U.S. to Establish System of Air Defense of Georgia
Implementation of the US-Georgian agreement of 6 points in defense, providing increased air defense system in Georgia, has started.
According to the Georgian public TV broadcaster, on September 12 a group of experts will arrive in Tbilisi. They will analyze the opportunities and needs of Georgia to provide air defense of the country, including the marine area. In the next phase the doctrine of air defense of Georgia will be worked out, which technically will be provided by the Americans.
According to experts, the implementation of the agreements will ensure the safety of Georgia from air, sea and land (by strengthening the engineering).
As stated by the Georgian expert Tornike Sharashenidze, cooperation with the U.S. in air defense is of historic significance. It is the weakness of the Georgian air defense that allowed Russia to win the war in August 2008, he said.
Earlier, a number of Congressmen and U.S. Senators urged the Pentagon to establish radars of the air defense system in Georgia or Azerbaijan to protect them against missile attacks from Iran. -02D-
