Thomas Melia: Message by Obama on civil society of Azerbaijan is based on reliable information
“A message sent by the President Obama due to the problems of civil society in Azerbaijan is based on reliable information,” Adviser on Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, Secretary of State John Melia told “Azadlig” radio. The day before, speaking at the Clinton Global Forum, the U.S. President noted unimaginable obstacles created for NGOs in Azerbaijan.
However, the head of the public policy department of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, Ali Hasanov, called this criticism not objective. "Before making such a statement, Obama was well informed," retorted Thomas Melia.
“We are monitoring the situation, and soon I plan to visit Azerbaijan,” he said.
It should be noted that a year ago the Azerbaijani authorities did not allow him to visit Azerbaijan. –0--
