Mammadyarov: Sargsyan abusing self-determination
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, speaking at a meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York, responded to the criticism of the Armenian government on the situation around Nagorno Karabakh, reported Radio Liberty.
According to Mammadyarov, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan "abuses the worthy of respect principle of self-determination, to hide his country's attempts to annex Nagorno-Karabakh." "In fact, the principle of self-determination requires the return of the expelled Azerbaijanis to Nagorno-Karabakh and their coexistence in peace and prosperity together with the Armenian community in Azerbaijan."
Two days earlier, Sargsyan said at UN that Azerbaijan for more than 20 years has impeded efforts of the international community for a peaceful resolution of the Karabakh problem. According to him, Baku does not comply with the UN Security Council resolution on NK adopted in the early 1990s, and in particular, "it continues attacks on civilians and violates the principles of international humanitarian law."
Recall that the UN Security Council resolution provides for the withdrawal of Armenian forces from the occupied territories. -02D-
