Top U.S, European, Ukrainian Officials Press On Congress For Funding Against Putin's War

Top Biden administration officials. including Secretaries of State and Defence, as well as Ukraine’s key national security leaders on Tuesday appeared before American lawmakers to lobby on following through on support for Ukraine, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.

The move came just a day after the White House had sounded the alarm to Congress that it had run out of funds to supply Ukraine with weapons.

"Ukraine is about to enter what we know will be a very difficult winter, when we’ve seen Russia launch attacks on critical Ukrainian infrastructure that they use to enable people to heat their homes during the winter. It is our position in this administration that we need to stand by our partner at this difficult time," State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told a daily briefing when asked by TURAN about Antony Blinken's appeal to the lawmakers.

"We need to continue to support them in their fight against Russia, and we hope that the U.S. Congress will be there as well," Miller said.

The Ukrainian delegation is being led by President Zelenskyy's closest political allies — adviser Andriy Yerma, defense minister Rustem Umerov, and others. After meeting with lawmakers, they’ll spend today and tomorrow huddling with their counterparts from the White House, Defense and State Departments, as well as the largest defense firms.

In the meantime, politicians and officials from several European countries, such as Poland and the Baltic States, have also arrived in Washington to meet with lawmakers and underscore the urgency of American support for Ukraine.

Newly appointed British Foreign Secretary David Cameron will also arrive in the U.S. capital today to meet with officials and lawmakers over the importance of continued support for Ukraine and on the conflict in the Middle East.
