Tusk Statement on Karabakh Conflict in Yerevan
Baku / 07/10/19 / Turan: The Karabakh conflict cannot be resolved militarily, and a political solution is needed that will comply with international law. This was stated by the head of the European Council Donald Tusk on Wednesday at a briefing in Yerevan.
According to him, the EU is inspired by the dynamics of negotiations on the settlement of the Karabakh problem and the willingness of the parties to bring the nations closer to peace, and also to put emphasis on humanitarian issues.
"We also share the concern of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs on victims in the conflict zone and escalation. The parties should be restrained and take measures to restore an atmosphere conducive to the continuation of real negotiations," RIA Novosti quotes.
The EU continues to contribute to the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group mediators aimed at a fair and long-term resolution of the conflict on the basis of the Helsinki Final Act, as well as efforts to achieve peace and prepare peoples for peace, he noted.
On the eve in Baku, Tusk noted that the EU recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and is in favor of resolving the conflict on the basis of international standards.-02D-
