Ukraine applied for NATO membership
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday that Kyiv is applying to join NATO on an accelerated basis.
The decision to apply for membership in NATO was made following the September 30 meeting of the National Security and Defense Council.
"De facto, we have already made our way to NATO. De facto, we have already proved mutual compatibility with the standards of the alliance, they are real for Ukraine - real on the battlefield and in all aspects of our interaction," the President of Ukraine said.
"We trust each other, we help each other and protect each other. This is the Alliance. De facto. Today Ukraine is applying to do this de jure. In a procedure that will be consistent with our importance in protecting our entire community . In an expedited manner," Zelensky stressed.
"We know it's possible. We saw Finland and Sweden start joining the alliance this year without a Membership Action Plan," he added.
Zelensky also said that Ukraine "always offered Russia to agree on coexistence on equal, honest, dignified and fair terms."
"Obviously, this is impossible with this Russian president. He does not know what dignity and honesty are. Therefore, we are ready for a dialogue with Russia, but with another president of Russia," he said.
He stressed that "the entire territory of our state will be liberated from this enemy." -0-
