UN report: in 2100 the population of Armenia will amount to 1.8 million
Yerevan / 28.08.15 / Turan- ArmInfo: The Armenian population in 2100 will be total approximately 1.8 million people, according to UN projections, presented by the representative of the Armenian office of the UN Population Fund, Garik Hayrapetyan, at a press conference on August 28. According to him, the reduction of the Armenian population from the current 3 million is the high rate of migration, reduced birth rate, increased mortality and population aging. "So, if today the Armenian people aged over 60 years old comprise 16.3% of the population, by 2050 this figure will be 33.1%," said Hayrapetyan. According to UN forecasts, in 2100 in Georgia the population could reach 2.4 million people; in Azerbaijan - 9.5 million; in Iran - 69 million; and in Turkey - 87 million.
In 2100 the world's population will reach 11.2 billion. Today, this figure is estimated at 7.3 billion. It is noteworthy that in 85 years the largest increase in population will be in Africa.
In Armenia, according to the data for the first quarter of 2015 the birth rate fell by 2% compared to the same period last year. -02D-

On August 31, Azerbaijan observes a "day of silence" before the Sunday’s early parliamentary elections for the unicameral Milli Majlis. All electoral campaigning is prohibited 24 hours before the voting. The early elections were initiated by the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party. This decision was motivated by the overlap of the scheduled elections in November with the global UN forum - the COP20 climate conference taking place in Baku.
