The US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations is due to vote on the appointment of New Yorker diplomat Robert Francis Cekuta as an ambassador to Azerbaijan this week, TURAN's Washington DC correspondent was informed by official sources.
President Obama’s nominee as American ambassador is scheduled to be voted on December 4th and is expected to be confirmed in a “voice vote,” and his confirmation on the Senate floor is a formality, which would allow him to take up his position in Baku once approved.
Mr Cekuta’s confirmation is one of four appointments made by the Obama administration coming before the Senate this week. The others include the president’s nominee for ambassador to Armenia.
Cekuta, who was nominated by President Obama to Azerbaijan early in July is the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Energy Resources at the State Department, a position he has held since 2011.
He also has direct oversight over the Bureau's work on transparency and access to energy.
