Yerevan agrees not to include Karabakh issue in peace deal
Baku/28.02.23/Turan: A consensus has been reached on a number of issues in the peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku. Armenian Parliament Speaker Alain Simonyan told reporters on Tuesday.
"I cannot voice them as it may hinder the process. But I can say that these are internationally accepted principles. These are general provisions," "Sputnik Armenia" quoted Simonyan as saying.
In particular, Simonyan pointed out that the Armenian side is against including "bombs" in the text of the document, which may threaten the statehood, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia. According to him, the peace treaty should not contain any provisions concerning the Karabakh problem.
"We must understand whether it is in our interests, in the interests of Artsakh people that something about Artsakh is included in the treaty. Let there be no impression that we refuse to defend the interests of Artsakh and the rights of its population," he said.
Simonyan added he has no information about Baku's reaction to the Armenian side's proposals.
On February 16, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Yerevan has completed another stage of work on the peace agreement with Baku, having passed its proposals to the Azerbaijani side. According to him, it is a draft integral treaty. The document was also passed to the co-chair countries of the OSCE Minsk Group.
For his part, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev told journalists at the Munich Security Conference that Baku and Yerevan had reached agreement on a number of provisions of the future peace treaty. -02D-
