Yerevan wants to implement the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline project
Tehran / 13.12.17 / Turan: The head of the Armenia-Iran parliamentary friendship group Vahram Baghdasaryan is discussing in Tehran the possibility of commissioning the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline.
According to IRNA agency, at a meeting with the chairman of the Iranian parliament energy commission Feredun Hasanvand, he said that the commissioning of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline will make a big contribution to ensuring Armenia's energy security. Baghdasaryan also said that the government and the parliament of Armenia do not see any restrictions on the development of ties with Tehran and consider it necessary to implement the project of such a pipeline that will largely solve the energy problems of Armenia.
Khasanwand, in turn, stressed that the Energy Commission of the Iranian Parliament supports the strengthening of economic ties with Armenia.
It should be noted that at present Armenia receives gas from Russia. Armenia does not have an alternative source of gas, and Yerevan does not want to be completely dependent on Moscow.
After signing an agreement on associative relations with the European Union in November, Yerevan increasingly demonstrates a desire to be less dependent on Russia. Earlier, Moscow was strongly opposed the construction of such a gas pipeline, which could theoretically be extended further to Georgia and Europe. -02D-
