Azerbaijani theologian expresses concern for the fate of Iraqi Shiites
"Events in Iraq are political events, and some radical groups transform religion into an instrument of its policy, said a theologian, and imam of the Baku mosque, Haji Shahin Hasanli, commenting on the latest developments in Iraq. In his view, what is happening in Iraq is a continuation of the events in Syria. A military group called "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" that failed to achieve their goals in Syria are trying to reach them in Iraq.
"This is not a struggle between Islam, what is happening - it is a challenge to the Islamic religion and its trends," said Hasanli.
According to him, not only some states, but also some figures of Saddam Hussein’s regime are intersted in it. Hasanli regarded it as the most provocation against Islam the statement of radicals that they will attack Karbala, Najaf, Baghdad and Sameer.
He noted that these cities are shrines associated with the descendants of the prophets of Islam.
"How can they be called Muslims if they threaten to destroy tombs and mausoleums of other Muslims?" said Hasanli. According to Hasanli, these groups use religion and religious feelings of representatives of individual trends in their quest to avenge the government of Nouri al-Maliki.
However, Hasanli indicated the presence of serious threats to the Shiites of Iran, and urged the international community to take serious measures to protect these people. According to him, although Western states call these groups a threat to security in the region, they do not hurry to take effective measures against them.
"Regardless how they call themselves, the acts of these groups are terrorism and a shame for Islam, and provocation against religion," said Hasanli.-05B06-
