Insanov to be taken to madhouse
Baku/05.02.14/Turan : There is a threat of sending the convicted former Health Minister Ali Insanov to a mental hospital. This was stated by leader of El Eldar Namazov in an interview with Objective TV (www.obyektiv.tv).
He said that punitive psychiatry was used in Nazi Germany and the USSR, and this caused a negative reaction of the international community.
"Now, after decades in Azerbaijan through the sites close to the authorities on behalf of anonymous experts information on Insanov's mental disorders is being spread. It is most probably done to prepare public opinion for the opinion that Insanov is mentally ill," said Namazov .
He believes that Azerbaijani society should express its strong protest and assert inadmissibility of such actions by the authorities.
"Such methods of dealing with political opponents put Azerbaijan in line with the Soviet and Nazi regimes," said Namazov .
Namazov said the European institutions are concerned that the Azerbaijani authorities do not fulfill the decision of the European Court of Human Rights in the Insanov case.
Recall that Ali Insanov during the January 17 re-hearing of his case in the Baku Court of Appeal accused Azerbaijani authorities of the organization of political assassinations and other crimes.
At the next court hearing, he was put in a soundproof cell, from where he was not heard and he could speak only when the judge switched on the microphone.
Insanov was arrested in October 2005 on charges of attempting a coup , but then sentenced to 11 years in prison for economic crimes .
In March 2013 the Strasbourg Court found a violation of the rights of Insanov during his trial and ordered the authorities to pay him compensation .
The Plenum of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan sent the case back for retrial. -03D06-
