Khural Editor Looks Forward to the European Court of Human Rights

The founder and editor of  Khural newspaper, Avaz Zeynalli, is waiting for a decision by the European Court of Human Rights concerning his illegal detention, said the journalist's lawyer Elchin Sadigov in an interview by Objective TV.

According to him, in the past 10 months, investigators, judges, or court officers never adhered to the Criminal Procedure Code.

A change to the measure of restraint is requested by the lawyer because the editor is not a murderer and did not commit acts dangerous to society.  The lawyer was told Zeynalli is dangerous because even under house arrest and travel restrictions, he can write articles against the government.  This testifies to the court’s ordered character, the lawyer said.

No evidence was shown supporting the charges. The entire evidence base was in style in1937.

There are telephone conversations on record between the editor and the MP Gular Ahmedova. The MP told him not to write critical articles and promised him financial aid, but Zeynalli refused. Everything sounded clear, but the court found it necessary to invite an expert, who treated the talk as an agreement, and the editor’s attempt to raise money from the MP.

During another meeting, Avaz Zeynalli presented video footage from the Baltika brewery, where workers poured a whole lot of expired Khirdalan beer into fermentation. The footage made everything obviou; the area where the plant is, the plant room, bottles with labels, and the actions of the workers, but in this case the judge did not consider this evidence but rather a technology violation and slander against the manufacturer.

In such circumstances, Zeynalli can only hope for European Themis. Meanwhile, judges submitted to the National Bar Association, to impose administrative penalties on Elchin Sadigov for his violation of professional ethics. -17D-
