Baku / 02.08.19 / Turan: A screenwriter Rustam Ibrahimbekov said his public the activity is not related to the work of the Filmmakers Union, which is purely professional organization.
"I have never been involved in politics, I was engaged in social activities. I believe that civil society in our country is in a very weak state. The impact of citizens, people, and especially the intelligentsia on the situation in Azerbaijan is very weak. This is my opinion and I remain in this position. Therefore, I will try to continue social activities," Ibrahimbekov said in an interview with Turan on the eve of the Day of National Cinema.
As for the Union of Cinematographers, such questions have never been raised in this organization.
"The Union of Cinematographers was concerned only with the problems of cinema. As chairman of the organization, I would not want the Union to intervene in political and public affairs. But that does not mean that I, Rustam Ibrahimbekov, personally will not be engaged in social activities. I declared about it, and it seems to me that this was accepted.
I am glad that I was finally heard. Now our Union is given all-round assistance in organizational and financial matters. True, the government owes us, but now these debts are coming back," said Ibrahimbekov.
He stressed that his activity might seem "undesirable" to someone, but negative attitude towards him personally should not apply to the Union.
* The attitude of the authorities towards the Filmmakers' Union deteriorated several years ago after Ibrahimbekov criticized the government"s policy, he then headed the Union of Intellectuals and the opposition National Council of Democratic Forces.
In response, the authorities initiated the creation of an alternative Union of Cinematographers, and filed a lawsuit against Ibrahimbekov, accusing of tax violations.
For the last 6 years, Ibrahimbekov was actually in exile and was periodically subjected to harassment in pro-government media. However, recently the attitude towards him in the leadership of the country changed, and this year he was able to return home and continue his creative work. -16B-
