The anniversary of the creation of the Democratic Republic of South Azerbaijan
Azerbaijani people celebrate 67 years (14 December 1945) of the proclamation of the national government in South Azerbaijan, known as "21 Azer".
As the Chairman of the Permanent Council of the World Congress of Azerbaijanis Ajdar Taghizadeh told Objective TV, it was a typical example of the victory of the national liberation movement.
The very first decrees of the Pishavari government introduced the official language, created Tabriz University, reformed health care, education, and land ownership, guaranteed all political and civil liberties for women, and introduced an 8-hour workday.
Despite these reforms and the improvement of living conditions, geopolitical players (U.S., USSR, and the United Kingdom) did not want to strengthen the Turks in the region and in Iran they preferred to keep a balance between the Turks and the Persians. Soon after the Soviet troops left Tabriz and the surrounding areas, the Shah's regime drowned in blood the national movement in South Azerbaijan.
Today Azerbaijanis also want to create a national autonomy. But they say it is impossible. Why could the Scots, the Catalans, and the French in Quebec aspire to create their national states and why are the Azerbaijanis called separatists?
The Iranian authorities are terribly afraid of mentioning the term "Azerbaijan". So, they put in prison even those, who have brought fiction in Azeri from Azerbaijan, not to mention the arms and flags of Azerbaijan.
"We are fighting for the recognition of the autonomy of South Azerbaijan in the area around the cities of Tabriz, Ardebil, Hamedan, Anzali, Miyan and several others with a majority Turkic population," said Taghizadeh. -17D-
