192 political prisoners in the new list of human rights defenders
Baku/05.08.20/Turan: The Union "Freedom to Political Prisoners of Azerbaijan" published an updated list of political prisoners on August 5. There are 192 people in it. The number of political prisoners has risen sharply over the past three weeks due to mass arrests of opposition leaders.
Thus, 36 new political prisoners are activists of the Popular Front Party and other persons accused of violating public order and attempting to seize power.The list was drawn up in accordance with the criteria for the concept of "political prisoner" set out in the PACE Resolution No. 1900 of 2012.
The list was made by Leyla Yunus (former “prisoner of conscience”) Director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy and Elshan Hasanov (former “prisoner of conscience”) Head of the Public Union “Monitoring Center for Political Prisoners”
The list consists of nine groups:
No. 1 - journalists and bloggers - 8 people
No. 2 - members of opposition parties and movements - 11 people
No. 3 - arrested after the rally on July 14-15, 2020 - 36 people
No. 4 - victims of crimes in the Ministry of National Security - 1 person
No. 5 - believers - 51 people
No. 6 - hostages - 1 person
No. 7 - convicted in the Terter case - 25 people
No. 8 - convicted in the Ganja case - 45 people
No. 9 - life sentenced - 14 people. -02D-

Two women have died from mushroom poisoning in the Khachmaz region, located 200 km north of Baku. According to Azar Magsudov, the head of the toxicology department at the Clinical Medical Center (CMC), the victims were 46 and 41 years old.
