Baku/12.06.23/Turan: A temporary ban on bathing has been imposed on a number of beaches in Azerbaijan because of high bacteriological indices of sea water pollution and the risk of outbreak and spread of infectious diseases among the population.

Such a decision was adopted on the basis of the results of monitoring of sanitary condition of beaches in Baku and Sumgait cities, Lankaran, Khachmaz and Astara regions, as well as sea water quality indices by laboratory testing methods conducted by the Republican Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology under Ministry of Health together with Department of Caspian Complex Environmental Monitoring under Ministry of Ecology.

Bathing is temporarily prohibited on beaches in Shikhovo of Sabail district, Sahil of Garadagh district, Hovsan of Surakhani district, Turkan of Khazar district, Pirshagi of Sabunchi district, Sumgait city, northern coastal zone of the Republic (Yalama, Nabran, Istisu and Seyidli settlements), southern region (Lankaran and Astara regions) and illegal beach areas in these territories.

However, physicochemical and bacteriological indices of sea water in beaches of Buzovna, Zagulba, Mardakan, Shuvalan, Novkhani, Goradil, Nardaran, Bilgah and Pirshagi in Baku have been fixed at normal levels.

Control measures with the use of laboratory methods of sea water examination continue at the beaches.

It ought to be noted that the beach season in Azerbaijan opens on 15 June. -06В-
