About 15% of schools in Azerbaijan in emergency condition - Minister
Baku/07.09.23/Turan: At present, 654 secondary schools in Azerbaijan are in emergency condition. This was stated by Science and Education Minister Emin Amrullayev at a press conference dedicated to the start of the new academic year.
According to him, their number will be reduced over time. Earlier, at the beginning of the year, the Minister touched upon the emergency condition of 800 schools.
In total, there are 4400 schools in Azerbaijan and today more than 14.8% of them are in emergency condition.
The Minister added that in 2023/2024 school year 6 schools for 780 pupils will start operating in the territories liberated from occupation.
Amrullayev also referred to the general statistics of pupils in Azerbaijan. There are 2.1 million of them, of which 220,000 undergo pre-school training, 1.6 million study in general education schools, 33,000 - in professional lyceums, 60,000 - in specialised secondary schools, 220,000 - in universities.
