Baku/03.08.23/Turan: Chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions under the "Democracy 1918" Movement Afiyaddin Mammadov went on a hunger strike at the Detention Center for Administrative Arrests of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan. This was reported to Turan by the head of the Democracy 1918 Movement, Ahmed Mammadli, with reference to the activist's lawyer.

According to Mammadli, Afiyaddin Mammadov is demanding the annulment of two court decisions against him and ensuring his right to telephone calls.

On August 2, the Khatai District Court of Baku imposed a fine of 500 manats on Mammadov, finding him guilty under Art. 528.1 (Failure to comply with the requirements of an executive officer in connection with the execution of decisions of judicial and other bodies) of the Code of Administrative Offenses.

Furthermore, on the same day, the Yasamal District Court sentenced

Mammadov to 30 days of administrative arrest, having found him guilty under Art. 535.1 (non-subordination to the police) of the Code of Administrative Offences.

Both decisions are unfounded and complaints have been filed against them, Ahmed Mammadli further said.

In particular, a complaint was filed against the arrest decision to the Court of Appeal.

And in connection with the imposition of a fine, the lawyer appealed to the Khatai district court with a request to recognize the detention of Mammadov and the award of a monetary sanction as unlawful.

The complaint in the Khatai district court will be considered on August 4 at 15.50, Mammadli said.

*Afiyaddin Mammadov was detained on August 1 after a protest by food delivery couriers who expressed dissatisfaction with the seizure of their motor scooters due to innovations in traffic rules. Mammadov, being the head of the Confederation of Trade Unions under the Movement "Democracy 1918", actively advocates for the labor rights of couriers and employees in other areas of activity. On August 2, by a court decision, he was arrested for 30 days.
