Afghan Mukhtarly examined a month later
Baku/30.06.17/Turan: A medical examination of journalist Afgan Mukhtarli, who was arrested on May 29, was held in the Kurdamakha Pre-trial Detention Unit, told his lawyer Neymat Kerimli; the examination was carried out 31 days after his beating.
"Mukhtarli was kidnapped in Tbilisi and beaten, and then taken to Baku. The defense immediately demanded an examination, but this was not done. Contrary to the requirements of the law, the examination was not carried out deliberately, so that traces of violence on his body disappeared naturally," said the lawyer.
It should be reminded that a criminal case was brought against Mukhtarli under the Articles 315.2, 318.1 and 206.1 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (violence against a representative of the authorities, illegal border crossing and smuggling.)
The Azerbaijani authorities claim that he was detained while illegally crossing the border with 10 thousand euros in his pocket. However, in fact, he was kidnapped by the employees of the criminal police of Georgia, and handed over to the representatives of Azerbaijan.
The reason for kidnapping the journalist was his investigation of the corruption of the leadership of Azerbaijan. The authorities regard Mukhtarly as a link in the transfer of Azerbaijani opposition money from Western structures.-05B-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
