Afghan Mukhtarly stopped the hunger strike
Baku/24.09.19/Turan: Journalist Afgan Mukhtarli, serving his prison sentence, stopped a hunger strike in jail No. 16, reported the coordinator of the NİDA Movement Samir Asadli.
According to him, the journalist stopped the action due to a sharp deterioration in his health and numerous requests from members of the public.
"Afghan suffers from diabetes mellitus, for three days he did not take food and medicine, and this caused serious health problems for him. In addition, today the lawyer conveyed to Afghanistan numerous requests from members of the public to end the hunger strike," Asadli said.
The information was also confirmed by the head of the public relations department, Mehman Sadigov.
* On September 22, Mukhtarly"s statement was circulated about a hunger strike in protest against the physical pressure on his lawyer Neymat Karimli and violation of the confidentiality of his notes.
** Investigative journalist Afgan Mukhtarli was abducted in May 2017 in Tbilisi, secretly transported to Azerbaijan and arrested. The court sentenced him to 6 years in prison on charges of smuggling and violence against the border guard.
Amnesty International recognized Mukhtarly as a "prisoner of conscience." -21B06-
