Human rights activists demand to punish a police officer who attacked a journalist
Baku/09.24.19/Turan: A group of human rights defenders sent a letter addressed to the Interior Minister in connection with police violence against journalist of the Turan agency and the correspondent of Radio Voice of America, Taptyg Farhadoglu, on September 23.
"We ask you to understand and evaluate the actions of the police officers who have so grossly violated the rights of a journalist," the appeal addressed to Vilayat Eyvazov said.
The incident took place on Monday morning in front of the building of the Office of the Prosecutor General for Serious Crimes, where a group of women held a protest rally.
The journalist covering this action was attacked. He was detained, the camera was taken away and taken to the police. So he was kept for about an hour, after which they recommended "not to take more anti-state steps" and released.
The appeal was signed by Novella Jafaroglu, Sayida Gojamanli, Saadat Bananyarly, Arzu Abdullayeva, Mirvari Gahramanli, and Avaz Hasanov. -03D-
