Amirov and Ahmadli again share the criminal case
The Baku Court of Appeal today rejected the complaint of financial director of Azadlig newspaper Faig Amirov to extend the term of arrest until June 12, said the lawyer Fakhraddin Mehdiyev. The court did not heed the defense's arguments about the absence of grounds for the pre-trial arrest of Amirov. At the same time, during the consideration of the complaint, it was found out that Amirov’s case was separated from the activist of the Popular Front Party arrested.
It is noteworthy that earlier the investigation united the cases of Amirov and Ahmadli, although they were accused of absolutely different charges.
Amirov was arrested in August 2016 on charges of inciting inter-religious strife. The investigation incriminates him ties with the movement "Hizmet" by Fetullah Gulen, who was declared in Turkey as the organizer of the failed coup in July 2016. However, during the investigation, prosecutors tried to find grounds to accuse Amirov of tax evasion and illegal financing of the newspaper.
Ahmadli was accused of transferring personal data of mobile users to third parties. -06B--
