The Presidium of the Bar Association decided to exclude the well-known lawyer Alaif Hasanov. According to Hasanov, he was not invited to the discussion, and not even informed of this, indicating the illegality of the decision, said the lawyer.
The reason for the exclusion was the judgment on 6 November, 2014, when a lawyer was sentenced to 240 hours of community service. The reason for punishment is a claim of Nuria Huseynova, the former cellmate of Leyla Yunus. Nuria Huseynova felt offended after allegations of Leyla Yunus that Huseynova was pressing her. A lawyer, in turn, conveyed the words of Yunus to the press.
Hasanov said the lawsuit and the judgment are unfounded. In addition, the disorder of which he is accused is not socially dangerous, and it is not right to deprive of power because of it. Finally, the Supreme Court has not yet considered his appeal, and the final decision has not been adopted yet.
The lawyer also noted that the meeting of the presidium took place a few days after the article appeared on the site haqqin.az: «Chairman Azer Tagiyev taken under his wing the opposition?" which actually called for punishing Hasanov.
"I learned about the decision of the board from the same site, and the management board confirmed the decision. I was told that I cannot continue the work on the cases which I have started. Thus, I cannot defend political prisoners Omar Mamedov, Murad Adilov and a number of others," said Hasanov. The lawyer said he intends to appeal the decision of the board in the court.
Meanwhile, a member of the Presidium of the Bar Association, told Turan, that the decision to suspend the powers of Hasanov had been adopted, and the board will appeal to the court to terminate his lawyers power.
In recent years from the Bar were excluded several lawyers known for their active citizenship, and protecting political prisoners. They are Khalid Bagirov, Aslan Ismayilov, and Elchin Namazov.-06B--
