The Ganja Court of Appeal chaired by Badal Aliyev held a preliminary hearing on the appeal of the head of the Educational Center of Ganja, Hasan Huseynli.
Hearing on the merits is scheduled for September 9, the lawyer Elchin Sadigov told Turan.
The defense applied for replacement of arrest by house arrest, and for conducting partial trial.
* Huseynli was convicted on July 14 and sentenced to 6 years' imprisonment on charges of disorderly conduct and illegal possession of knives.
However, the evidence of his guilt was not presented.
Huseynli is known as an educator in the western region of the country and his arrest has been condemned by many local and international human rights organizations. -03B06-
