At the appeal court in Movsum Samedovs case
Baku / 10.07.17 / Turan: The trial of the convicted leader of the Islamic Party Movsum Samedov started in the Baku Court of Appeal on Monday. In May, the Garadagh court decided to transfer Samedov from prison No. 12, where he is serving a sentence, to Gobustan prison. Samedov's defense challenged this decision in the Baku Court of Appeal. According to the lawyer Yalchin Imanov, he applied for additional evidence that Movsum Samedov should be transferred to Gobustan prison.
According to the lawyer, such a decision was made without investigation and without testimony of witnesses within 10 minutes, which indicates the bias of the case. That is why the defense considers it important to provide additional evidence, the lawyer said. However, the court rejected the application, including an application for a partial judicial investigation. Movsum Samedov took part in the court session and supported both petitions. The court decided to consider the appeal without providing additional evidence and without conducting an investigation. The meeting is scheduled for July 17.
Movsum Samedov was sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2011 on charges of trying to forcibly seize power and change the state system. -0-
