Анар Мамедов
At Trial of Criminal.az Website Editor
Baku / 30.01.19 / Turan: The Baku Court of Grave Crimes held a meeting on the case of the Criminal.az website editor Anar Mammadov.
Recall that on July 9, 2018, the Prosecutor General"s Office opened a criminal case on the dissemination of "false information" and "illegal appeals" to the Internet in connection with the attempt on the life of Ganja Chief Executive Elmar Veliyev and the energy blackout in Mingachevir in the summer of 2018.
After that, the prosecutor's office appealed to the Ministry of Communications to block the sites Bastainfo.com, Criminalaz.com, Topxeber.az and Fia.az.
Then Mammadov was charged under the Criminal Code articles: 281.2 (appeals against the state), 309.2 (abuse of office) and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code, which he rejects.
During the meeting on January 29, the testimony of the witnesses, the mother and daughter Malahat Mammadova and Samira Janiyeva, was heard. According to the investigation, after reading the messages on the website Criminal.az, "they were excited and complained to the Baku prosecutor's office with a request to take measures."
However, during the meeting, these witnesses, despite numerous protection issues, were not able to name the publications that concerned them so much.
Mammadova said vaguely that she was afraid of war and rallies. Both women confirmed in court that they did not use the VPN system, but claimed that they had read the website after the authorities blocked it - on July 9.
The witnesses said they complained, wanting this "channel" to be closed. The trial will continue on February 8. -06D-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
