Azerbaijan Could Not Win Against Malta
The national team of Azerbaijan in the qualifying football match of Euro 2016 drew 2:2 on a visit to Malta.
The match against the outsider of Group H started with the Azerbaijani team's attacks and the Azerbaijanis opened the scoring in the first half. On the 36th minute after Dmitri Nazarov kicked the ball, it returned from the defender to Rahid Amirguliyev, who scored a goal.
Owning the advantage, the Azerbaijani football players calmed down and decided to relax, and paid the price.
At the 55th minute, Nazarov lost the ball in midfield, allowing the hosting team to carry out a counter attack, and a powerful blow by Mifsud equalized the score.
After the missed goal the guests rushed to attacks and created several poignant moments at the opposite side's goal net.
However, a blunder of Badawi Huseynov in defense at the 71st minute allowed Efiong to go one on one with Kamran Agayev and send the ball into the net of the national team of Azerbaijan.
After that, the Azerbaijani team rushed to recoup. However, the visitors managed to score a goal only once. After 80 minutes, Ruslan Gurbanov rolled the ball to attacking Amirguliyev and the long-range shot into the bottom corner of the goal net of the Maltese restored the balance - 2: 2.
The Azerbaijani national team has scored six points and remained at the penultimate fifth place in its group.
All the 6 points have been won by the Azerbaijani team after the appointment of the Croatian expert Robert Prosinecki as the head coach. He replaced Berti Vogts, with which the national team lost all the first 4 matches of the qualifying round of Euro-2016. -06D--

The closure of Azerbaijan's land borders was discussed during the parliamentary session on November 25. While the government’s decision cites the coronavirus pandemic as the main reason—despite the World Health Organization declaring its end last year—Zahid Oruj, Chair of the Human Rights Committee in the Milli Majlis, pointed to other factors. He stated, "Opening the borders could result in an influx of hundreds of thousands of non-Azerbaijani refugees due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Additionally, in Iran, many are prepared to cross into Azerbaijan to safeguard their lives and assets amid military strikes. Such waves of refugees could lead to humanitarian, social, and cultural clashes that may threaten political stability."
