Azerbaijan is no longer among the leaders in selective abortions – Bahar Muradova
Baku/19.07.23/Turan: Azerbaijan is no longer among the leaders of countries on selective abortions, head of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs Bahar Muradova reported at today's press conference dedicated to the 6th anniversary of the establishment of this department.
According to her, in order to solve problems with young families, educational measures are being taken to avoid intentional termination of pregnancy, in cases where the fetus belongs to the female sex. In addition, a corresponding bill has been developed, which is under consideration by the Parliament.
As for the fight against domestic violence, in the first half of the year, the hotline of the State Committee received 146 appeals from victims, including 112 women and 34 men.
In general, compared to the same period last year, the number of appeals to the state committee increased by 10 percent.
350 appeals were related to non–enforcement of court decisions, 225 – for domestic violence, 129 – for not providing work, 123 – for not providing social benefits, assistance, pensions, 91 - requests for assistance in examination treatment. ---06B---

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has not been invited to observe the parliamentary elections scheduled in Azerbaijan for September 1. Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Aykhan Hacizade, stated that invitations have been sent to seven international organizations: the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, GUAM, the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Organization of Turkic States.

A new group of migrants from the Garadagh district of Baku has arrived in the city of Shusha, the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons reported. Seventy-nine Shusha residents, comprising 21 families, have returned to their hometown.

Bahram Nuriyev, chairman of the Gabala branch of the public association "Young Gazis" (Young volunteers) and a participant in the Second Karabakh War, attempted suicide on Sunday, according to a statement from the association. Nuriyev reportedly shot himself with a firearm, protesting against what he claimed was untimely and inadequate medical treatment, which led to severe psychological distress.
