Bakhtiyar Hajiyev's health is getting worse - lawyer
Baku/25.01.23/Turan: Public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev has been on a hunger strike in the Baku pre-trial detention center-1 for the 17th day demanding his release. On January 25, lawyers Neymat Karimli and Rovshan Rahimli met with him in the pre-trial detention center. According to Karimli, Hajiyev's health worsened even more compared to the previous day. In particular, his dizziness became more frequent, lethargy increased.
“Due to increased dizziness, Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, when he gets to his feet, loses his balance and almost falls. The pre-trial detention center-1 doctor said that this may be due to insufficient blood supply to the brain,” the lawyer said.
According to him, Hajiyev applied to the Penitentiary Service with a request to conduct MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and CT (computed tomography) examinations, but has not yet received a response. Hajiyev is kept in the medical unit of the pre-trial detention center.
However, according to the lawyer, there is no quality medical care and they only measure his blood pressure, blood sugar and heart rate. He is not put on drips for the introduction of supportive funds. Consideration of the appeal against the extension of Hajiyev's arrest is scheduled for January 27. The penitentiary service noted that Hajiyev is in the medical and sanitary unit under medical supervision.
* Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days. On December 15, Hajiyev went on a hunger strike demanding his release. On December 28, he ended his hunger strike after persistent calls from the public and family members. However, on January 9, he resumed his hunger strike after the appeal court refused to release him and continues to this day. On January 21, the court extended Hajiyev's arrest for another 1 month. -03B06-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
