Immediately after the conclusion of the negotiations in Vienna with the participation of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia a battle took place at the contact line. A soldier Natig Tahirli was killed in the shelling from the Armenian side, the Azerbaijan Defense Ministry press service said. As a result of the response, manpower of the enemy had losses, the same source said, placing the responsibility for further developments on the Armenian side.

On December 25, an Embraer 190 passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), on a Baku–Grozny flight, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Aktau, Ayxan Suleymanlı, stated that the plane had 67 people onboard, including crew members, 38 of whom died. According to him, 26 of the deceased were Azerbaijani citizens.
