On February 1, the monthly amount of the pension of the President of Azerbaijan for the participants of the Second World War, home front workers, persons awarded with the medal For the Defense of Leningrad and the badge Resident of the Siege of Leningrad will be increased by 10 per cent to 110 manats. The corresponding decree was signed by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on January 25.
The head of state also increased by 10 per cent the monthly amount of the Pension of the President of Azerbaijan for people receiving social benefits for disability group I. From February 1, 2016 on the President's pension for such people will be 66 manats.
Also from February 1, 2016 will increase the amount of monthly benefits for people in partially paid leave for child care. Thus, the amount of benefits until the child is 1.5 years old will be 40 manats. The monthly allowance for child care between 1.5 and 3 years old will be 25 manats.
In addition, the President signed an executive order to strengthen the social protection of poor families receiving targeted social assistance.
To finance the targeted state social assistance provided by the Reserve Fund of the President in the state budget for 2016, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Azerbaijan will be allocated 20 million manats.
The size of the targeted social assistance is determined based on the difference between the "need criterion" and the amount of income per family member. Families whose income per person is below this criterion are recipients of social assistance. At the present time, "the need criterion" is 105 manats.
Total in Azerbaijan there were 108,000 families - recipients of social assistance as of November 2015. The amount of assistance per household averaged 152 manats.
The Azerbaijani President also ordered to provide increase in the insurance part of all types of pensions, based on the consumer price index by the end of 2015. Note that, according to official data, the rate of inflation in 2015 was 3.4 percent.

On December 25, an Embraer 190 passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), on a Baku–Grozny flight, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Aktau, Ayxan Suleymanlı, stated that the plane had 67 people onboard, including crew members, 38 of whom died. According to him, 26 of the deceased were Azerbaijani citizens.
