Biometric Passports for Citizens of Azerbaijan
On Sept. 2 began issuing biometric passports to the new generation. The first biometric passport of the Republic of Azerbaijan was awarded to President Ilham Aliyev.
Development of a universal instrument was developed within the framework of the provision of technical services to the citizens of the modern world standards and to ensure that the requirements of the "State Program on creation of biometric identification system of the Azerbaijan Republic for 2007-2012."
Improved legal and regulatory framework governing the issuance of identity documents , the Decree of the Head of State on July 17, 2012 No. 687 approved the description , specifications and samples civil, service and diplomatic passports.
For the application of biometric identity documents of the new generation of the Ministry of Economic Development , a working group composed of experts in the relevant state authorities, studied the experience and achievement of internationally known companies in this field , developed the description and specification of passports. For the manufacture and delivery of ordinary passports have been established 9 regional centers.
The new passports, the assurance of appropriate professional services of police, are made ??of high quality polycarbonate material that is resistant to heat, light, deformation, chemicals and moisture. In addition, the electronic system will get rid of unnecessary red tape faced by our citizens today .
List of personal data of the owner will add fingerprints, voice settings, or retina. Experts believe that the new system will monitor the security of the borders, fight against illegal migration and organized crime.
Depending on the size of the state fee paid by citizens they can be provided with a regular passport for ten, five and one working days. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the case of the issuance or replacement of a passport within 10 days the stamp duty for up to one year is 10 manat , 1 to 3 years - 20 manat , from 3 to 18 years - 30 manat and for adult citizens - 40 manat.
Within 5 working days for children under the age of 1 year a stamp duty is provided at the rate of 20 manat, 1 to 3 years - 40 manat, from 3 to 18 years - 60 manats, and for persons 18 years old - 80 manats.
For one working day for children under 1 year the fee is AZN 40 , 1 to 3 years - 80 manat , from 3 to 18 years - 120 manat , and for persons of 18 years - 160 manat. - 17D-

Police in the city of Sumgait arrested Sakit Musaev, born in 1988, on charges of illegal drug trafficking over the past weekend, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs' press service. During a search of Musaev's home, authorities discovered 50 kg of heroin, as well as marijuana laced with psychoactive substances, opium, and methamphetamine.
