Border guards reported seizure of drugs and detention of the offender
Baku / 11.08.18 / Turan: The State Border Service of Azerbaijan reported two incidents on the border with Iran in recent days. On August 3, at a service station of the border guard "Goytepe" near the village of Sulucheshma in the Jalilabad region around 01:30, a VAZ-2172 car with a state number 99-GL-017 was seen. Border guards detained a man who got out of the car, and took the package, which was about 3 kilo opium. The resident of Jalilabad region, Khayal Ali oglu Bakhshaliyev, born in 1987, was detained.
On August 8, near the village of Alash in the Astara region, a violator of the Iran-Azerbaijan border was detained. He was Iranian citizen Ali Abdullanidjat Saltanhusein, born in 1996.

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
