CDSI: Azerbaijan Lost 15 Soldiers, Armenia Lost 23 in H1, 2018
Baku / 30.06.18 / Turan: Losses of the defense and security sector of Azerbaijan in the first half of 2018 amounted to 15 soldiers, while Armenia lost 23. This is stated in the message of the Caspian Defense Studies Institute (CDSI), which is based in Germany.
According to the same source, 3 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan died in combat conditions, and 12 - in non-combat ones.
Two military men died from diseases, 1 - from accidents, 3 - in unknown circumstances, 3 - from shots of fellow soldiers, 1 - in an auto accident, 2 - from explosion of mines.
During the review period, two servicemen were wounded. One injury was caused by a colleague, and the other resulted from a shootout with violators of the border.
Armenia had 23 losses, including 4 combat losses, and 19 non-combat losses.
Four Armenian soldiers died in a shootout with the Azerbaijani side, 7 died from accidents, 4 committed suicide, 2 were killed by fellow soldiers, 2 died from illnesses, 1 died due to violation of safety rules, and 3 died from other causes.
All the deceased were servicemen of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, including units located in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
Eleven incidents took place in Nagorno-Karabakh and in the adjacent occupied territories, and 12 took place in Armenia.
In the first half of the year, 5 servicemen of Armenia were wounded or injured, including 2 at the front, 1 in an auto accident and 2 as a result of accidents.
CDSI was founded in 2015 by an Azerbaijani journalist and military expert Jasur Sumerinli, who emigrated from the country a year earlier. -06-
