Celebration of Avaz Zeynalli's birthday
Baku/16.12.22/Turan: Today, members of the public celebrated the birthday of Avaz Zeynalli, the imprisoned head of the “Khural” newspaper and YouTube channel, at the Center for Research against Torture.
Speaking at the event, the journalist's wife, Malahat Zeynalli, said that this was Zeynalli's fourth birthday in prison. (Avaz Zeynalli was imprisoned in 2011-14 on false charges). The public is also aware that the charges against him are false. Today, he is not scheduled to meet with his family, even though 3 months have passed since his arrest, they also do not schedule an appointment on his birthday. I see it as moral pressure."
He noted that Avaz Zeynalli always made efforts to develop a free press and stood up for his political and public activists.
Political and public figures, journalists spoke at the event. They indicated that they would continue their efforts to get him released.
* Recall that the lawyer Elchin Sadigov and the founder of the “Khural TV” website Avaz Zeynalli were detained on September 10 on suspicion of taking a bribe. On September 11, the court arrested both. On September 17, the Baku Court of Appeal transferred Sadigov to house arrest.
