Convicted activist of PFPA is not allowed to meet with relatives
Baku / 22.09.18 / Turan: After the announcement of the verdict to the activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Orkhan Bakhishly, he is not allowed to meet with his relatives. Bakhishly was detained on May 6 allegedly with six gram of heroin. The activist himself denied the accusations, said that the policemen planted drugs to him. A few days before the arrest, on May 3, at an event on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, at the grave of journalist Elmar Huseynov, Bakhishly accused the murder of the journalist of the country's authorities. His colleagues believe that this was the reason for his arrest. Human rights activists recognized Bakhishly as a political prisoner. On September 18, the court sentenced him to 6 years in prison.
Mother of activist Kamal Rahimli said that after the announcement of the verdict he is not allowed to meet with relatives in Baku jail N1. According to her, at first the reason for the ban was not mentioned. But then representatives of the jail made it clear that her son "made political statements" and this "did not remain without attention".
The activist's mother believes that this is the last word of Orkhan on the court, where he again accused the authorities of the country and confirmed that he intends to continue the struggle for the democratization of the country, despite the repression of the authorities. When the announcement of the verdict was over, he began chanting "Freedom!", "Freedom!".
Orhan Bakhyshly was included in the list of political prisoners out of 128 people, promulgated on September 1 by a working group of civil society. Also, the activist is on the list of political prisoners of 151 people, which was unveiled on August 3 by the Center for the Protection of Political Prisoners.-06D--
