Court of Appeal Upholds Detention of Football Player Javid Huseynov
On Friday the Baku Appeal Court dismissed the complaint from the football player Javid Huseynov about his arrest, leaving him in custody.
According to the athlete’s lawyer Adem Mammadov, the football player pleads not guilty and the defense is preparing a motion to change the measure of restraint by house arrest.
Recall that Huseynov is accused of misprision of information about the planned crime and concealment of the crime. He was arrested on 11 August in connection with the murder of the journalist Rasim Aliyev.
Five people were arrested, including a cousin of the footballer Elshan Ismayilov, who subjected the journalist to severe beatings on August 8. They are charged under Article 126.3 (deliberate infliction of serious bodily injury that resulted in death of a person). Aliyev died from his injuries in the hospital on August 9. -16D-

In 2017, the Sumgayit City Court ruled to evict the Aliyev family—refugees from Gubadli (Akper, Sarvinaz, Ramil, and two other family members)—from an illegally occupied apartment in the 12th microdistrict, Building 7A, Apartment 35. The court ordered the property be returned to its rightful owner, Samaya Aliyeva. However, the Ministry of Justice intervened, citing a presidential decree from July 1, 2004, which approved a state program for improving the living and working conditions of refugees. Under this directive, refugees without alternative housing cannot be evicted until they are provided with a replacement residence by the Executive Authority.
