Criminal Case against Human Rights Defender Closed
A criminal case initiated 4 years ago against the head of the Public Alliance "Azerbaijan without political prisoners" Oktay Gulaliyev has been closed. The human rights activist Taleh Khasmamedov told Radio Azadlig the call of Oktay Gulaliyev to the Sabirabad police ended positively:
"Oktay was told that on the proceedings started against him four years ago the criminal case was dismissed and the ban on his leaving the country was removed."
On April 8, 2012 Gulaliyev was detained in the village of Minbashi and sentenced to 12 days of administrative arrest. On April 19 against him a criminal case was filed under Article 220.2 of the Criminal Code (mass disorders). Sabirabad District Court sanctioned his arrest for a period of 2 months. He was sent to Baku Investigative Jail. On June 13 212 years Sabirabad District Court took the decision to withdraw the preventive measure of arrest, and the activist was released in the courtroom.
Gulaliyev is a member of the Board of the Coalition of Azerbaijani NGOs for Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI). This organization has recently strongly insisted on the termination of the Azerbaijani government pressure on civil society. –0---

Last night, three earthquakes occurred along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border with magnitudes of 4.8, 3.0, and 3.8, according to the Republican Center for Seismological Service of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported no information about any destruction or casualties as a result of the earthquakes.
