Customs Seizes 487 Kilograms of Heroin out of Truck with Dried Fruits

Azerbaijani customs officers at the customs checkpoint Samur (Azerbaijan-Russian border) stopped the transit of large quantities of heroin, the press service of the State Customs Committee.

Heroin weighing about 487 kg was detected in a truck carrying dried raisins from Iran to Ukraine through Azerbaijan.

The drug was packed in 1,800 plastic bags and hidden in boxes with dried fruit. The State Customs Committee’s investigative department started an investigation.

This is not the first time of such a transit of heroin through Azerbaijan.

Typically, drug trafficking originates in Afghanistan and goes via Iran to Europe and Russia. The total volume of drugs annually transported on these routes is calculated in tons. -03D04-
