Earthquake Damages Forty Houses in Lerik
Baku / 29.08.18 / Turan: As a result of the earthquake that occurred in the Lerik region of Azerbaijan the day before, cracks appeared on the walls of 40 houses.
Serious devastation or human casualties have not been registered, the head of the Analysis and Socio-Economic Development Forecasting Department of the Executive Power of the Lerik region Gabil Melikov told Turan IA.
According to him, there have been no earthquakes in the region since 1998. This one did not cause serious damage or casualties. At present, the damage is being registered to provide the due assistance.
Recall that the earthquake occurred in Lerik on August 28 at about 17.00. The intensity of the tremors in the epicenter amounted to 5.1 points, and the surrounding settlements registered 3-4 points.
According to the Seismological Service Center of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, two more tremors of 3.7 and 3.2 points were recorded in the evening of August 28.
On the morning of August 29, another 60 earthquake aftershocks occurred, which is caused by the release of energy from the earth in this zone.
