Economic Court Starts Case against Institute of Reporters Freedom and Safety
On July 1 Baku Economic Court held preparatory hearing on the lawsuit against the Institute for Reporters Freedom and Safety. The lawsuit was filed by the Ministry of Taxes, which accused IRFS of tax evasion.
Turan was told by the lawyer for IRFS Gunay Ismailova. Specific details of the charges are unknown to her.
Recall that IRFS was closed by the authorities in August 2014. The office of the NGO was searched and its records and computers were seized. Later, it was a criminal case and the investigation declared illegal business and tax evasion by the management of IRFS. The head of IRFS, Emin Huseynov asked for asylum in the Embassy of Switzerland, where he remained until June 12, 2015, when he was taken to Switzerland. -03B-
